Project Manager Job Description

 

Project Mission:

Develop an Art Center for Fresh Start, a local non-profit, that will:

  • Sell artwork created by current prison inmates and ex-offenders in a gallery setting

  • Provide jobs for ex-offenders. Jobs created would be: retail associates, art teachers

  • Allow offenders to “tell their story” through their artwork

 

Goals:

  • Provide jobs for released inmates

  • Provide income for the Center through art sales and fee-based classes

  • Provide a revenue source for an inmate release fund that will be used for inmates to pay restitution to victims, and post-release income sources

  • Reduce recidivism

  • Help inmates gain self-esteem by telling their story and by contributions to the release fund

 

Project Manager Job Description:

Help plan, direct, and coordinate activities of the project to ensure that its goals and objectives are accomplished within a prescribed time frame and funding parameters.

 

Duties:  Along with project team and Executive Director of Fresh Start helps:

  • Develop a workable business plan which will include market research, overall strategic plan including timelines, budgets and feasibility.

  • Create and execute project work plans.

  • Identify resources needed and assign individual responsibilities. 

  • Manage operational aspects of the project and its scope.

  • Minimize exposure and risk on project.   

  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

  • Conduct research to find a location in which to house the center, preferably rent-free.

  • Make contacts with the art-suppliers (i.e. prisons, probation officers, etc.)  

 

Experience Desired:

  • Prior experience in managing projects in all phases from development to completion.

  • Passion for visual arts.

  • Knowledge of retail operations.

  • Strong communication, inter-personal, organization and team-leadership skills.

  • Ability to devote 1.5 to 2 workdays per week to project. 

  • This opportunity will begin as a volunteer position and will transition to a stipend position as soon as funding is secured.
